EN - The working of a 3-way valve
A 3-way valve (or mixing valve or modulating valve) is used in heating circuits.
In the picture below you can see a department with a 3-way valve, a pump and a pipe temperature measurement
The requested pipe temperature is 70 °C. The boiler has to deliver at least this temperature.
In this case the boiler is delivering water with a temperature of 75 °C.
The return water coming from the greenhouse is 45 °C.
Now the 3-way valve is mixing the hot water (75 °C) from the boiler with the cold water (45 °C) of the return to get a pipe temperature of 70 °C.
